Materials: Wooden clothespins, stakes, heavy rubber bands, pail for target. Cut one prong off of wooden clothespins. Drive two stakes in ground and stretch a heavy rubber band between them. Cub Scout uses the rubber band, as a catapult, to try to shoot fish (clothespin) into pail.

Fresh water is important for all living
things, including you. Many of us drink
soda or juice when we are thirsty.
Water is the best thirst quencher and
better for your health.
What do you think it means to have a
healthy body? What do you do to stay
healthy?
How do you feel when you are sick?
Do you feel different when you are
healthy?
What can you do to keep yourself
healthy? How can you help others to
do things that are healthy for them?
This is a teamwork game. Prepare
three boxes, similar in size. Pair up the
boys. Each pair carries the three
boxes with two hands, each boy using
one hand. The object is to carry the
boxes without dropping them. See how
far the boys can go. Remind them that
practice and teamwork will get them
farther.
Character Connection: Courage
|
Materials: Two pairs of adult-size rain
boots or fisherman's boots, filled with
water.
Divide the boys into two teams. On
signal, the first player from each team
puts their feet in the boots and walks a
short distance to the turning point and
then returns for the second players to
try.
If you have only one pair of boots, let
the boys experience walking in them.
They'll find that it's not easy but it is fun.
Divide the boys into teams. The first boy in each line (the crab) sits on the floor, with his back towards the finish line. On signal, the crab walks backward on hands and feet, lifting hips off the ground. When the crab reaches the finish line

In the land of Oz, the lion was known
for his cowardice, but in the end he
showed his courage by confronting the
wizard.
What do you think courage means?
Imagine that you have some friends
who are being unkind to someone.
How does it take courage to tell them
to behave differently?
Do you feel that you would have the
courage to stand up for what is right?
Are there any situations where you
wouldn't have the courage to speak
up? Why? What could you do to get
the help you need to be courageous?
What can you do the next time you
feel like you're losing your courage?
Materials: A balloon and 2 feet of string for each boy.
Each boy blows up a balloon and ties it off. Tie the string to the boy's left ankle. The object is to use his left foot to pop the balloon of the other boys while trying to protect his own balloon.
|
Materials: One old CD per boy, low-temp glue gun, one
sports bottle pull-up spout per boy, and one 12-inch balloon
per boy.
Under supervision, have the boys use the low-temp glue gun
to glue the bottom on the spout (the part that screws onto
the bottle) over the hole in the CD. This will seal the edge of
the spout around the CD. Snap the spout closed. Blow up
the balloon and wrap the mouth of the balloon over the
spout. Place the hovercraft on a smooth surface, being
careful not to loosen the balloon. Open the spout, which is
inside the balloon and hovercraft should glide around for
several seconds. For more fun, have races!
